The practice University College London set up

The Dental Centre has been looking after teeth in the Euston area since 1960, when University College London founded it for its own people. That link still shapes the list: NHS dentistry here is reserved for UCL students and staff under the founding partnership, and everyone else is seen privately. The surgery faces the British Library, and holds Denplan Excel accreditation.

Treatments

Examinations, hygiene and gum treatment, white fillings, crowns and bridges, dentures, root canal treatment and wisdom teeth. Missing teeth are replaced with implants. Cosmetic work runs from composite bonding and whitening to veneers — porcelain, Emax and feldspathic. Straightening is offered on Invisalign, invisible aligners and fixed braces. Mouth cancer screening is carried out under Mouth Cancer Foundation accreditation. Registered patients are seen for emergencies.

The team

Three general dentists work with five hygienists and three specialists. Dr Shihab Hussein, a Barts and The London graduate, is principal and clinical lead. Dr Rahul Makwana qualified with honours at Sheffield and took the Pitt-Ford Prize in endodontology; Dr Geeta Sundaram graduated from Guy’s and holds a PhD. Orthodontics goes to Dr Owen Jermyn, who trained at King’s College Hospital. Gum disease and implants go to Dr Bryar Koyi, a board-certified specialist periodontist; surgery to Dr Jill Mc Loughlin, on the specialist oral surgery register since 2000.

Who it suits

UCL students and staff, who have an NHS route here that is open nowhere else, and people living between King’s Cross and Euston who want general and cosmetic dentistry under one roof. Every surgery carries an intra-oral camera, so the plan is argued over a picture of your own tooth.
