New sports organisations are created all over the world every day. Some of them aim to erase all known stereotypes and create opportunities for any person to do sports. Such ideas become an impetus to unite people with disabilities or those who have distinct external differences. Very often, such organisations are the only chance for personal development and they help people believe in themselves. Fly Girl Collective in London is one of them. Hundreds of women of colour attend this sports club. Learn more about its policy and main goals at ilondon.info.
Interesting history of the club creation
Fly Girl Collective was created by a woman who became interested in sports and actively participated in competitions since 2011. Her name is Matilda and she is a journalist by profession. A few years before the creation of the organisation, she became interested in long-distance running and began to gather like-minded people around. Subsequently, they organised various marathons, competitions and other sports events. One of those was the race in 2015, in which Matilda participated with two other friends. Later, the three inspired and active women named themselves Fly Girl Collective. In 2018, Matilda formed and headed a community of women of colour in London. Previously, she studied to become a qualified running coach. Today, the London sports club is visited by a large number of women who seek to destroy stereotypes and take care of their own health.

The main idea of the sports organisation is the destruction of stereotypes about women of colour. Fly Girl Collective members strive to prove to the whole world that they have their own unique features, feminine beauty and desire to keep fit. Maybe, it was thanks to such groups that in most countries of the world, and particularly in London, people of colour have long become equal members of society with the same rights as white people.
The club’s features and fun activities
Fly Girl Collective is an athletic space for women of colour where they can improve their well-being and lifestyle in general. They are all very different, some of them are doctors or cooks, some are businesswomen while others are ordinary housewives. But they are united by sport. In addition to joint daily training, representatives of the organisation also participate in many sports events. Mental health is also considered important, which is why they arrange meetings and talk about various topics. One of the most popular events is the Fly Girl Brunch Club. Its participants communicate and make plans on how to improve their ideas. It looks like a kind of amateur club of like-minded people, which plays an important role in society. They not only learned to love themselves but also sent a similar message to the world. Thanks to them, every woman can believe in herself and start living happily.

All of this is accompanied by organisation of various events. During the warm seasons of the year, club representatives conduct weekly races. However, such competitions are also held in winter because the desire to do sports destroys all possible obstacles. For example, in January 2023, the Fly Girl Collective invited everyone to participate in a festive run around the city, and thus, start the new year actively. The sports event lasted for about an hour. The route started at Borough High Street Starbucks and finished near Borough Market, where participants got prizes and snacks. The club representatives never stop developing. They are always looking for interesting events and an active lifestyle.
