A boutique practice carrying a hospital-sized specialist list
Most independent Kensington surgeries send the awkward cases out. This one keeps them: alongside the general dentists sit a specialist endodontist, a specialist orthodontist, a professor of periodontology and implant dentistry, two specialist paediatric dentists and a consultant maxillofacial surgeon. The practice is private, GDC-registered and CQC-regulated, and it took Best Dental Practice of the Year at the 2022 Private Dentistry Awards.
Treatments and services
General care: examinations, hygienist appointments, fluoride, AirFlow stain removal and emergency slots for acute pain. Cosmetic: porcelain veneers, composite bonding and build-ups, whitening, Icon infiltration for white and stained spots, smile makeovers planned with Digital Smile Design. Restorative: cracked, chipped and worn teeth rebuilt, crowns, implant prosthetics. Gums: periodontal therapy, grafting and contouring. Orthodontics: Invisalign and retainers. Surgery: extractions, jaw surgery, oral biopsies. Endodontics: root canals and apicectomy. Also: nightguards and sports guards, mandibular advancement devices for sleep apnoea, jaw Botox for clenching, sedation from nitrous oxide through to intravenous.
The suite for nervous patients
Dental anxiety gets a room of its own here. In the nervous-patient suite you choose a film or programme from Amazon Prime or Netflix and watch it through the appointment; music plays in the treatment rooms and a blanket brought in from Switzerland is there for anyone who feels the cold. Children have their own version — fissure sealants, fluoride, sports guards, happy gas — with paediatric specialists whose stated focus is anxiety, tooth trauma and medically complex children.
The dentists
Principal dentist Dr Eleni Kavouridi qualified at the Eastman Dental Institute and trained further with the Rosenthal Group at NYU; she practises prosthetic and cosmetic dentistry, implant surgery and jaw-joint problems, and patients describe a calm manner with every step explained. Specialist endodontics is led by Dr David Jones, who teaches at King’s College London; periodontal and regenerative surgery by Prof Nikos Mardas. Members of the clinical team also consult in Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Arabic.
